There are many things to take into consideration. Is the 06 a used bike, do you care about a 5 speed or 6 speed, etc??? If the 06 is used, what add ons have been done. I recently went thru the same thing and decided on a used 06 road king classic. The deciding factors for me were the low miles on the 06(1500), the mods that were made to it and the lack of freight & prep on the used bike. I bought the used bike for 15K from a dealer I had purchased bikes from before. I saved around $3,000.....

Another consideration is buying the last of the TC88 bikes, or the first of the TC96 bikes. Harley learned from thier mistakes on the TC88 making the '06 bikes perhaps the most trouble free of the line. The TC96 has been out for awhile, but because of the timing of the release, few miles have been placed on these bikes, meaning they may end up with many recalls or Technical Service Bulletins on the bikes before they work all the bugs out. I would not let the 6 speed or the added cubic inches make my decision. The final drive ration on an '06 5 speed is about the same as an '06 6 speed. The added cubic inches did not make a significant increase in horsepower, in other words, a TC88 5 speed will have little problem keeping up with a TC96 6 speed.

If 350 rpm and 7hp is not much to you. Save your money today and spend more later.

well, one consideration for me was a carbureter, which I wanted.
Hence,'06 was more appealing, among other reasons.

07, period. If you save a couple of thousand on the 06, you're easily going to lose it on resale. As for the 07's having problems, first, I have had none with mine and we haven't had a single major complaint at the shop. Second, the 06's had their problems also........in fact, they all have their issues, Harley, Honda, Yamaha, etc and any given year. So take the bigger motor, the 6 speed and enjoy.

Buy the '07 don't worry about any problems it come with a 2 year warranty. Buying an '07 is cheaper than buying an '06 and adding a 6 speed and a 4.38 crank.

If you check I think it was 07 that H-D made improvments to the cam plate assemble, cam chain tensioner, new oil pump just to name a few things. The motor is a stroker also.
The is the biggest difference in the torque. I've went with the 07 and see a lot of folks who wished they had made different decesions. You need to run 75w-140 amsoil inyer transmission. Ball is in yer court.
