Default Any know the formula for 1 to 1 ratio at rear wheel?

While I was sifting through the forum, I thought I saw a post that included the traveling speed into the overall final drive ratio equation to reach 1 to 1 ratio at the rear wheel. Can't seem to find the again.
I know this isnt rocket science, I just wrench as I go and learn new stuff every day.
Thanks in advance.

I guess I am not quite understanding your question but here is how ratios are calculated. You take the rear sprocket tooth count and divide it by the front sprocket tooth count. Example 70 in the rear divided by 32 in the front is a 2.18 ratio. In order to achieve a 1:1 ratio you have to have the same going in as coming out or the same tooth count 28 front 28 rear. I hope this helps.

I don't get it either. 1:1 is direct drive if that what he means.

Mark@Baker Drivetrain is correct about how you figure the ratio in correlation to the transmission sprocket and the rear sprocket. You also need to know what is the output ratio of the primary, and the transmission. Example: I own a 1200 Sportster and just changed the transmission sprocket. Unlike most, I wanted a lower gear ratio, for better acceleration since I do very little cruising, so I changed from the 29t to a 26t sprocket. From the factory a 1200 04 Sportster has a 29t trans sprocket and a 68t rear sprocket. Dividing that out you get 2.34. But that is not the final drive ratio. A 1200 Sportster's primary output ratio is 1.5.. The 883 primary output ratio is 1.6. By multiplying 2.34 times 1.5 I have a final drive ratio of 3.51. Not sure of the 883 trans gear tooth count. If it were 28t with 68t rear that would give a final drive ratio of 3.89. The output ratio of the Sportster transmission is 1 to 1

You better have one hell of a motor to run 1 to 1 at the rear wheel.

Man, you got that right. That would mean his engine is turning over one time for every revolution of the rear tire. Gotta have a mean *** motor to pull that gear.

Easy, weld the motor sprocket shaft to the rear wheel.

You would be doing 80 on idle.
