Question Sportster Nightster Fuel Tank Removal

I'm new here... please don't blast me if this is the wrong forum... but please move to the correct forum.

I need to remove my fuel tank on my 2011 Sportster Nightster to run wires to the handlebars. I found a video on youtube on how to do this on a 48. Is the Sportster Nightster close enough that following those directions will be the same?

Side question: Most videos I found are for replacing the gas tank. Do I need to empty the tank if I'm just removing it and putting the same one back on?

Thanks!

I have never drained the tank when I do repairs or anything that requires removing it. Keep it fairly level though, or gas will drain from the tank vent hose.
