If you can't miss a deer, is there a good spot to hit it?

When the OP said he carried a knife, my mind went right away to gutting and dressing it so you have dinner.....

I'll second this answer. Not only will help be readily available, but you're probably going slow enough that help won't be needed.

Jeez, what are the chances you'll hit a deer at a seafood buffet?

Guy on an Electra Glide. If he'd been on a smaller bike, not sure how it would have ended. Not gory. Deer comes in at 5 mins.
I'd have probably needed a pit stop too. Long Island Ice Tea please. Go ahead and bring another.

Was riding my old SV650 in to college one morning a few years back. Came into a blind left hand sweeper turn uphill with some speed and low-and-behold a big doe was right in the middle of my lane. No way to go behind her because of how close I was and how the bike was positioned - there was a guardrail that didn't give me much room. We locked eyes for an instant and I ducked to the inside of her and hugged the yellow line in a hard lean. Two very lucky things: she didn't move at all and no traffic was coming the other way. I think we both had a mutual understanding that if either of us messed up in that instant we were both dead. Closest I have ever come. It was either try to zip by her or go hard on brakes and slide the bike down into her. There's no good way to hit a deer - too many variables.

There was another similar one, 'cept not a Harley, but a guy on a sport bike...wanna say 650 size or maybe 900 size. He hit the deer pretty fast...allllmost severed the deer into two pieces. You could see the hips and a rear leg just about rip off as he went through it.

If there is no way to avoid hitting a deer, is there a good way to do so?
Deer moves mostly between Dawn and Sunset hrs... Don't ride during those time... that would help..
At first I was thinking that if you am for the hind quarters you might make it into a glancing blow. But then I thought no that might cause the the deer to spin into you.
99% of the time,, YOU aint gonna have time to make a decision where the impact will be....
My basic college physics class is not helping me with this discussion.
Your HS and Colege Physics class,, (if like mine.) Didn't have any problems relating to as what to do with hitting a DEER....
What are your thoughts?
Said it above and read more about the habbits of deer, IMO is what you need to do..
BTW I always carry a knife just in case I need to put down an injured animal. It really bothers me when I see them on the road
