Default Nickel Vs. Chrome

How hard do you think it would be to swap out all the chrome plated stuff for Nickel? I know it would be pricey... but can it really be done realistically? Anyone ever tried it or heard of anyone doing it?

I was watching Spike TV last weekend during one of the morning car shows. They did a site tour of a chrome plant. The chroming process is actually three major steps...
first they use electrolysis to copper plate the part, then they nickel it, then they chrome it... and they said the chrome is actually clear!! The metalic "color" you see is from the nickel.

so, take that for what its worth.

Are you talking nickle plating??, That wouldn't be as shiney as the chrome but I suppose you could, never heard of anyone doing that though.
If you mean having parts of solid nickle the bike would weigh a ton.

EXACTLY! Chrome plating involves a layer of copper plating, a layer(S) of nickle plating, and a layer(s) of the chrome coating, which more or less allows the nickel to shine through it, kind of like a clear coat! The chrome coating, adds a depth and color change to the nickel.

Nickel plating by itself won't hold up as well as the chrome plating. It would also require more care, but it does have an interesting look.

I swapped out nickel for chrome on my 1200C. Chrome looks better IMO.

Nickel is to much work to keep shiny. It tarnishes very easily. I play a nickel plated banjo and it is more work to keep it clean than you can imagine. Chrome is much, much less work.
