Default Outdated Handlebar Law

Here in Ontario we have a law that's says our bars can be no higher than 15" above the lowest part of our seat, this law is outdated and ridiculous. Please sign this petition and pass it on.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, there are lots of states in the USA that have the same law. The law makes most stock bars unlawful. Any law that doesn't take into account the height of the rider is absurd. SJ Ron

Politicians work for you. If you don't tell them what you want done , it won't happen...... And you need lots of like minded folk to help you out.

Not sure if a bunch of Americans signing a petition for law changes in Canada would be helpful. I'm sure you have some equivalent of the AMA in your country and that's who you should be lobbying to get laws updated.

In PA, ABATE and AMA got the law repealed and now we have zero restriction on handlebar height. Doesn't help much when we venture out of our state though. My handlebars are about jaw height and I wouldn't have them any other way.

Very few states actually allow for bars to be shoulder height and yes, many stock handlebars on cruisers do not meet the state requirements. If you get busted, a good lawyer can usually get it thrown out due to the aforementioned issues. Most states site safety concerns with handling. Just like people who bash apes for the same reasons... most have never even ridden a bike equipped with them.

I stumbled upon this petition a few hours ago and couldn't believe that the person who started it only had about 160 signatures after a year, figured I would pass it out everywhere I could for him and was hoping some Canadians would come across it on here. Ha Ha, you might get dinged for a ticket riding around these parts with those bars.

Make them earn their keep. Hopefully your local politician isn't related to Rob Ford

Despite the law, do you how many people have received citations for their handlebar height?

Typically most cops use it as a "pile on" violation usually reserved for bikers that want to be douche bags. In some cases, such as motorcycle only check points, all bets are off. I have degenerative disc disease with two discs almost completely disintegrated. Without my apes, it would almost be impossible for me to do long distance riding. With them, I can ride all day long with very little discomfort.
