05 RK Classic. Wife had the same problem. It's a narrow pillion on the stock seat. We went with the HD Sundowner and she's good for 700 mile days now.

Most guys replace the stock seat and bars on Road Kings.

Monkey Butt Hurts!

Hopefully you can find her some relief..the good news is there are lots of options for a touring bike...do a lot of research..and go check out the pics in the bagger forum.

Also If you just strated riding, 250 miles is a long ride for a n00b butt!..back off a bit and take shorter trips for a while..kinda like ridin a horse, gotta find a saddle that fits your/her butt and then break it in.

Good Luck!

WOW! I checked out that seat cover....$160. My wife has the same problem, so $160 wouldn't be too bad if it solved it. Does it fit the Sundowner touring seat?

I rode about 45k miles on my stock Road King Classic seat. For long trips, I bought one of Harley's sheepskin covers for the stock seat. It is black sheepskin on the top and vinyl on the sides. It fits like a glove. We used on long trips and then took it off when we go there.

After switching to hard bags, I swapped to a leather low profile HD seat. We sure missed that sheepskin on the long trips, so I bought a black sheepskin off of eBay and trimmed it to fit the contour of the seat. I cut a slit in it so my backrest would fit thru. We sit on that on the 300-700 mile days that we sometimes do. It may not look stylish at the gas pump, but it sure feels good going down the road.

I know that sheepskin or sheepskin covers conjurs up the image of somebody's grandpa on a Goldwing, but that doesn't have to be so with a Road King. This is what she looks like on the trip and what she looks like when we get there....

Petemac,

The covers are tailor made for each seat. HD has more covers than what they show on their site. They may make one for the Sundowner. I bought mine off of eBay brand new for about 40 bucks.

Take the test-I saw this at Americade. They had you sitting on their pad, simulating riding over bumps, etc. When you get off and lift up the pad you can't believe it. They had road tacks hidden under the seat......Never felt a thing. not overly expensive. Worth every penny. JMHO

I've got a 2007 RKC with a stock seat. The wife and I took a 250 mile ride Saturday and she can only ride about 50-60 miles before having to get off and rest. She was still so sore on Sunday that she passed on another 250 mile ride and stayed home to watch basketball. She's 5'5 115 lbs so it's not like I'm hauling a wide load. I'm thinking that a different seat may help and the H-D Sundowner two up touring looks like my best since it works with my rider and passenger back rest. Any thoughts on this?

I one time had a conversation with this old farmer whose family had built my house a 100 or so years ago. Since it didn't have any windows looking out towards the lake on the second floor, I asked the old guy "Who would build a house on a lake with no windows looking out from the bedrooms to the lake?"
He said, " A farmer, us farmers are either sleepin' or screwin' when we're in the bedroom , we're not lookin' out the windows!"
Point is, if you want to sit and look at your bike, get one of those nice sleek looking seats that aren't comfortable and you can pat yourself on the back that you don't have a big ugly seat.
On the other hand, if you want to ride and your wife and/or girlfriend wan't to ride with Ya', get a comfortable one. the thing will be covered by your *** most of the time so people won't be starin' and pointing at your ugly comfortable seat mosty of the time anyways.
IMO, the sundowner just isn't that ugly to begin with , but, it sure is a hell of a lot more comfortable than the stock seat and it was way more comfortable than a stock RoadKing seat.
Nuf said.
