Umm, my local stealership is already doing the whole "nitrogen service" thing. They even put green caps on the stems to indicate that you shouldn't put regular compressed air in them.

No, I am not kidding.

I have not asked them how much they charge to top off the tires with nitrogen; I really don't want to know... I already disrespect their service department for other shady practices. But that does remind me that I want to go ask for the black caps back, for my newest bike. Don't wanna ride around looking like "that kind" of sucker all year...

That's more than I paid for my bike with new Harley-Davidson tires already on it!

One of our two local dealers is also offering nitrogen.

Nitrogen is the new "in" thing for cars and bikes, and no matter how you try to explain to people that it's a waste of money, they read somewhere of the advantages and want it!

I don't fault the dealer for meeting a demand and making a profit from it.

The only reason I have stayed with the original tires for replacement is in case when I'm on a road trip I need a tire replaced. I have heard stories about HD dealers that will only replace a damaged tire with the original and will not mix brands. One guy had to buy two tires because of this when he only needed one.I'm sure many of you have read that story on the forum.

Yes, their tires are made out of the same gold as their grease monkeys tools. Why else would their faithfull customers pay such elaborate prices?

I agree with this same concern. I was considering the Dunlop American Elite as a replacement and supposedly the guy in the story had the same tires. Then again the dealer wants $70 more per tire than what I can buy at a local motorcycle super store. For me the only other consideration would be the Metzelers.
