Default need to lube clutch cable?

I popped the clutch cable off in order to lube it and noticed that the actual steel cable is encased in a white plastic (teflon?) sheath. The cable on my softail doesn't have this sheath. Does this eliminate the need to lube the cable???

If it have a Teflon liner you do not lube. If you put lube in it, it will become to feel like it's binding and jerky on the pull of the lever

Not necessary to know what kind of bike it is. The newer cables, even for the older bikes, have the teflon encased cable. No need to lube it.

Thats not true, they still need lubed, its just a different type of lube than the earlier ones. Use liquid silicone spray on the new ones with the coating, and tri flow works great for the earlier ones

The only broken cables I've seen broke at the lever. So if you spray some oil now and then there, I feel that's all you can do. Whoever replaced the cable on my '96 cop bike didn't route the cable in to the holders, and it rubbed thru the housing and started leaking trans fluid under the nosecone.,,
