Default Brake reservoir leaking........ again

Had both my brake reservoirs replaced under warranty last spring as the seals were leaking and it had taken the paint off around the top.
Noticed today that the front one is leaking again. Checked the screws that hold the lid on and they are tight. What the hell is going on, I've owned bikes most of my adult life and never ever had a brake reservoir leak. Is this something that affects Harley?
Anyone else have a similar problem?

I had this problem as well. I check mine frequently and when I see fluid around the cap I replace it. There are better aftermarket res on the market

Be careful about how tight the screws are. The recommended torque is really low (10-12 inch/pounds). When the screws are tightened too much it causes the gasket to compress too much and then leak.

okay, I'll re torque them.

That's what I really love about this forum, there's always someone with the right answer.
Thanks.

Had the same problem, had to replace both of my reservoir caps, some fluid must have blown back at some point as a small amount of paint on the front brake lever is starting to bubble up, don't know why Harleys don't use screw on ones like some Jap bikes use, as I think them leaking is a fairly common problem.

Yep, had mine replaced as well. I looked at the used bikes at the dealer and at least 50 percent of them suffered this same issue-

Over-tightening can distort the cover. Replace it.

The cover gasket has been revised a couple times I think, make sure you are getting newest version.

I've found once it leaks, or if fluid gets between the gasket and the top plastic cover, it will almost always want to leak, and requires replacement. You have to be very careful not overtightening the cover and with how you handle it when it's off (don't flip it over). It's a bum design.
