No. You're not going to polish the clear coat off.

You might strip it, or sand it off.

It is much easier to sand them down with 400 grit wet paper, and then down to 1000 then buff them with a polishing wheel, and whatever aluminum polish you like.

I think I am going to try a small unnoticeable spot on the back and go from there. I will follow this guidance and see how it goes. Thanks,

You have to strip the clear coat off first, then you can polish it to a mirror shine.
There are many acceptable methods for removing the clear coat....I used Acetone and a couple Scotch Brite pads to strip the clear by hand...all elbow grease. I also did it in place, and was able to get to everything fairly easy....only thing I removed was the fender.

Sharkman,

I would follow the same method and remove the fender while leaving the lower in place. Going to give it a try. May be a week or so before I can start.

I had taken fender off and front rim and tire , (put new front tire on , so rim had to come off anyway) got one polished wow what a difference ! One to go !
