HD dealers in winter cold weather locations vs warm weather
#21
My dealer has the lowest labor rate of any HD dealer and many independents at $55/hr. When I got my 14 last month they already had over 30 customer bikes in the warehouse for services and installs of at least $1K/bike including storage along with about 200 stored for the winter for $150 per bike.
They sell many bikes each week. They held a Toys for Tots event last week. If you brought in a $10 toy you got a chit for 25% off of parts, accessories and the other stuff. The place was packed during the two day event. The only difference is the lot is full of cars not bikes. The cash registers just keep on ringing.
Very little impact of bike sales. Buy one in the winter and get free storage on a tender and under cover until spring. I got an even $2K of msrp on my 14 RK. The three 13's left were $3K off.

I'm not aware of any dealer in the Chicago area offering labor at $55/hr.
Glad to hear your dealer is supporting Toys for Tots. This year's toy run in Chicago was a bust due to snow. I never understood why TFT organizers wait until December to hold the event. Organizers should realize that getting a present in the hands of a kid is much more important than maintaining a traditional December date for the event.

service rate drops from 95 to 65/hr. otherwise no deals to be had
if i had a dealership, I'd be selling snowmobiles or something that's in demand during winter to get me through the off season.....

Reiman's in Kewanee, Illinolis.
Started in 1949 by Hank Reiman who was a famous hill climber. He is only one of two who HD honored with a big bronze trophy as a "Master Tuner". It can be seen in the dealers museum area.
His son Roger Reiman took over. Rodger was a three time Daytona 200 winner and Eviel's tuner for his jump bikes. He also helped Good Year develop tubeless tires for motorcycles.
Roger was lost when in a Legends race during Bike Week at Daytona in the 90's a rider went down in front of him. He went down avoiding him and another rider ran over Roger.
Family members still run the place.

My local dealer offers a little on labor and parts . He will pickup and deliver also .
His sister lives next door to me and I could use his trailer if I ask . We are in north central Indiana and Snowmobiles went out 15 years ago just not a lot of snow every year . He is doing a Cam for me next month at a good price .

He's probably laying people off.
