Default Turning my bike into a chopper

Without going into great detail, just in general, what do you think it would cost to convert a 1991 Springer into a 70's style chopper. Maybe using the original frame, engine, front end and any other suitable original parts. Is it even possible without a total rebuild. Thanks for your comments.

Just to start, you have to cut/rake the neck and you'd need longer legs for the front end. That alone would be maybe $1000 total. You need to get the bike to a bare frame at least though. Then you might need a new tank, but shopping around that can be cheap. There's no telling how much it might cost, but it can go from little to more than you want to spend faster than you realize. The cost is going to depend on how radical you want to go, and what existing parts you have and reuse.

How do I know? I did it. Good luck to you.

What he said. You don't need a silly long front end but definitely a rigid frame and King and Queen seat (just my taste more so).

Anyhow IMO you''ll need a frame, rear fender, tank and change the seat the rest should work. A chopper came about removing most of the bike stock equipment so you should be removing rather than adding on for the most.

You certainly can use all the original parts just use your imagination. Back in the 60's chopped a beautiful 53 Panhead Hydraglide. It took a while because It was my daily rider but enjoyed every minute of it.
Start by taking off parts you know are only bling step back look and see what you think, keep doing it like this eventually you will find a direction.

...and your 53 Pan was on a rigid frame. Nothing looks as good as a rigid!

Definitely try and use your frame. Registering it will be WAY easier if you do. They sell weld on hardtail kits for softail frames and the front end can easily be raked if you want.

Go to the club chopper forum, lot's of guys with knowledge there.

I think he can do wonders with a hacksaw and a nice old school paint job.
