Buying my husband a bike for Christmas

Don't expect a great bargain. If you can get $1k off MSRP, and no freight & assembly charges, you're doing Okay. Plus a couple free T-shirts and the 20% discount for 30 days. Let your husband decide the "extras" he wants. That's part of the fun. You're a great Wife.
Merry Christmas!

I would be annoyed if my wife bought me a brand new bike. Part of the fun of buying a new bike or car or boat is checking the options and getting the one I want, not one one my wife thinks I want.
It would be a lot nicer if you just gave him a card or toy motorcycle that says you are OK with him buying a bike. Then plan it together and get the options, colors you both agree on.
Maybe I am weird, but that's what I think.
Now if some stranger spending his own money wants to buy me a bike, that would be fine.

You're right, I missed that part, if it's the same bike she can't be wrong.

Some dealers deal, some don't. But as has been said, it don't hurt to ask. Use it to your advantage. Low ball them and when they say no head for the door. Make THEM come to YOU.
If someone surprised me with a bike, I really wouldn't want someone ELSE riding up on it (but I'm sure I'd get over it). I think I'd find a way to get him out of the house for awhile and have it delivered, have it setting there when he get's home.
He's a lucky man. Would the two of you consider adopting? I'm almost 60 years old, but at only 5' 5" tall I can pass for a really chubby 8 year old.

If they can't (won't) come down in price, you can try to negotiate to have accessories thrown into the deal. If you don't know which accessories, tell them you'll take it if they give you x amount of $ in accessories (the accessories to be determined by you and your husband later if you don't know at the time). I was able to get some off of msrp plus a back rest and 4-point docking system thrown in, but your bike won't need that, so it would be different accessories for you. As others have said, discounts and clothes should also be asked for in the negotiations. Good luck!

07 Wife bought me a new RG cash . The funds party came from a fund for a new bike. She set me up by saying she wanted to go get a new pair of boots a HD.
The bike was HD Orange a bit loud for me at first. But I though if she went through all that trouble to get it right I would stay with that color.
In our case my wife knew what I liked a did not like , a bike is a big purchase.
Price do your home work in your area.

My dealer threw in a $500 gift card with my recent bike buy. With a gift card, you can buy stuff anytime. See what kind of programs the dealer has. My local dealer has a MVP club. It's $79 to join, but you get 10-15% off everything except labor. As you buy things, your discount goes up. I have already saved the $79 many times over.
Make them an offer on the bike. They have some wiggle room. But, remember the '14touring bikes are selling pretty well so they may not be hard up to move them cheap. However, the weather is on your side. Looks to be damn cold in TX in a couple days. Bike sales may slow down a little, so they might want to move some by the end of the year. Don't be afraid to shop different dealers. Some are much more customer friendly than others.
I'd have them deliver it to a neighbor's garage if you can and then come up with something sneaky to surprise him.
