Buying my husband a bike for Christmas
#111
Sunshine, I know you said you get it about not having anyone ride it before him, but then you say you're thinking about having his brother bring it over on Christmas Day. Please heed the advice of the bikers you seek advice from..DO NOT allow anyone to ride the bike before he does.

Hopefully the salesman comes back to you with an acceptable offer. If not, not too far away is Adam Smith's Texas Harley, in Bedford. Super nice folks there, and they bent over backward to make the deal on my bike (or at least it seemed that way to me).
Good luck. He's gonna go nuts when he see's his new bike.

What a lucky guy he is ! While I agree with negotiating with other dealers , my thought would be Do they have the same bike or can they get one in time for X-mas ? Also your gonna need to get some money down or make the deal before anyone else buys it .
Now for my thought on the surprise . First, don't let anyone else ride it. I must agree with that. And this may cost you a few more bucks, sorry.
Ask the dealer if they can have a guy deliver it on X-mas or X-mas Eve maybe. Hell if my girl did this for me , I would be smitten all the way to spring and beyond ! OK, so if they can deliver X-mas or X-mas Eve, see about using an unmarked box truck like a rental ( with a ramp ). People get deliveries on X-mas day too. On the day of delivery, have the driver wait for you down the street/ around the corner and call you when he gets there. Tell hubby you have to go get a present you left at the ?someones house and you'll be right back. Wear that sexy little x-mas outfit under clothes your wearing with you . Go meet the driver and park the car. Hop in the back of the truck , take off your regular clothes and sit on the bike ( which should be facing to the rear). Have driver pull up to your house and back in the driveway. Tell him to ring bell and get hubby to sign for a delivery. Then he opens the back of the truck and sees you on the bike . MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY ! ;D ( You might want to have a CD player with you playing " All I want for Christmas is You " when he opens the truck too. ) If you can't get the Harley dealer to deliver on X-mas day, maybe have the B-i-L in disguise or ? drive truck.
Have a Merry Christmas what ever you do !

Get on Cycle Trader. Enter the model/yr/color and your zip code.
Take all the matching bikes in the area and send the an email stating you are a qualified buyer and that you ARE going to purchase before Christmas.
Ask for their best out the door price.
See what comes back to you..
You husband is a lucky man, new bike, or no new bike.
Merry Christmas.

Tell the local dealer the deal you want, make it reasonable. Tell them you want to keep your business local and don't want to have a bad taste in your mouth after dealing with them. Tell them you want to bring your bike back there for service and accessories. Promise them a perfect survey and that you will recommend them to all your friends and if they don't sell it to you for your offer (again reasonable), you will do the opposite. Bet you get a fair deal.

First of all, you're awesome.
I don't think the husband has to be involved in the purchase. I do appreciate that you are asking others with more experience buying new bikes than even your husband would have if he was involved in the deal. My recommendation would be to call all of the dealers in TX and find as many with that bike as possible. Most have their inventories listed online. Compose an email stating what you are looking for with specifics and what you will pay. Explain that this is a Christmas purchase and that you do not need to shop bikes. You only wish to walk into the dealership and sign the papers.
Take the best deal you are offered to your local dealer and tell him he has 20 minutes to beat the offer or you're headed to buy the other bike.
I would have the bike delivered to his brother's house and go over on Christmas day. You know your hubby better than we do, but I wouldn't want my brother riding my new bike just yet, especially before I had the chance. Then again, I think the surprise will outweigh any of the rest of it. Delivery should be free and easily negotiated into the deal.

Here's my presentation idea, make a map to a close but special place to you both, and wrap it up in a big box, with a message that a special present can be found there for him. Then you guys drive there and find it together, leave the car there and ride off together.
