I think I was having the same problem about a year ago and was told to replace the shaft with a "Pingel greaseable shaft" never had the same problem since.

Oh,right! Missed that. Well,it's an easy fix. I just clamp a pair of Vice Grips onto the shaft, and "voila",instant cool lookin' Jockey ****,er,shift.

I'm guessing that you are talking about the shifter lever, which on my 09 RoadKing had FELL OFF 3 times, I was able to turn around and pick it up twice and the third time it fell between the floor board and the primary cover and was hanging there until I went to hit 2nd and there was nothing there!!! I ended up putting a thru bolt and a chromed cap nut on the end to keep it looking somewhat nice, my bolt faced upwards so it really wasn't a bad choice. I tried tightening that bolt many times and it still would work itself loose. I had an 06 Roadking that fell off once and an 1983 Roadking that fell off while on the highway and I never did find that shift lever. I have a hard time believing I'm the only one experienced with this issue.

Same thing happened to me a couple times on the RK Custom i used to have. The shaft over time will flatten the threads on the bolt and it'll slide right off. I almost lost my whole shifter once because of it but luckily it got caught between the floorboard and frame while going down the highway. Just buy a new bolt from your local indy/hardware store and replace it. Both times I did it, it only cost me about $1.50.

It's not the levers, it's the whole assembly. Somebody may have been hard on shifting....but I just got it a little while ago. Although I probably am a little rough on it, that thing felt so weird at first......Love it now !

Thanks for all the input everyone !
