Default 21" tire mounting issues?

I bought a new set of tires for my 2006 Softail Standard. Took the wheels off myself and hauled them to my local indy shop to have them mounted. They called me and told me my front tire was too small for the rim.

"You've got the wide 21" front rim, but you brought me the skinny 21" tire. We tried to get it on there but saw it's the wrong size. You could get another shop to force it on but it would be hard to make it fit right."

He told me on the phone. No problem. I went back and he said I gave him an 80/90-21 tire (which I did), when I should've given him an MH-90 tire. He mentioned what size my rim is, I forget what he said, but it's a 21-2.15, as says stamped on it. I looked around for my old tire, I didn't see it to check again and see what size it said on the tire. Loaded up the finished rear and empty rim, new front tire, and new tube and headed home.

I just looked online and it says MH-90 and 80/90-21 are the same size? Anyone else had this problem? I don't know if I'm misunderstanding something, or what.

Option A) If I'm not confused here, have another shop install it.
Option B) He's right, and I'm just misunderstanding, and buy a 90/90-21? Try and sell this 80/90-21 to someone since I can't return it after they tried to install it?

Go to another shop. I've run 80/90-21 tires on a 21-2.15 wheel before.

Is it bad to run it or anything? I swear that's what the one I did have on it was.

MH90 is the same as 80-90-21. It should fit fine on a 2.15 rim. If your rim is a 21x3, 3.25 or 3.5 90-21 is to narrow for the rim In that case you need a 120/70/21. The stock wheel on your bike is a 21x2.15. I assume that is the wheel you are getting the tire mounted on?

I don't think it's bad. Check with whoever manufactured your tire to see what size rim they recommend. I don't know of a common 21" street rim that's narrower than 2.15, but I'm no expert. Like I said, I've run a 80/90-21 on a 2.15 rim with no problems before.

Nor do I. That is as skinny as they come.

I've got my wheels picked out Hogpro. Just a matter of making the call and whipping out plastic.

My Deuce has the same size front rim that takes the 80/90 - 21 , 21 X 2.15 is the standard narrow 21" rim size many Harleys use. 80/90 is the metric size that converts to MH90 in alpha numeric . . .. . . same size tires.

80/90 is what they come with from the factory.

I believe so too. I found a site that shows 2000+ factory wheel & tire sizes and a bunch of other useful things. And every spec sheet I found says MH90 or 80/90-21 came factory. http://www.hdwheels.com/Product.htm
