State safety inspections
Are they required where you live? The places that are certified to do the inspections around here (N.C.)are really strict and thorough. My bike failed because the hi-beam indicator bulb (dummy light)was burnt out. No biggie, easy repair. It's a good thing I suppose, but I see cages rolling down the road oftenthat are well..........rat cages...lights out, bald tires, etc. My fav. is the turn indicator with the crossed wiring, blink left, turning right. What's with that?

RE: State safety inspections
Mississippi has a required annual inspection, but for motorcycles it's basically a walkaround, give the guy your $5, and be on your way. The inspection sticker is the same as for a car here....it's designed to be put on the INSIDE of the windshield, they are not waterproof. When you get it for your bike, you stick it inside your wallet or saddlebag, and forget about it. Basically a revenue producer.

Oklahoma did away with state inspections about 6-7 years ago. Just as well. In over 30 years, no inspector ever tested my car or truck brakes to see if they worked.

No inspections of any type here in Kansas...
No safety checks.
No equipment checks.
No emission tests.
Nothing.........
Each year they send you a registration form. You send in the required payment, along with information dealing with current insurance, and you are legal for another year.
Lot's of highly modified bikes, cars, and trucks running around here. It's about 'anything goes' when it comes to vehicle modifications....

RE: State safety inspections
In Louisiana all parishes (other then Orleans parish and the city of Kenner) an annual bike inspection is required, same as for all motor vehicles in the state. It's a walk around inspection, to confirm all lights &horn work, bike has a valid registration and "insurance." - cost $10 per year. Like the state of Mississippi, the inspection sticker is placed on the inside of a windshield, except for bikes, the rider carries it. These inspections are conducted at many local service/gas stations. When cops stop a biker, four things the ask to see, 1) drivers license, 2) registration, 3) proof of insurance, and 4) state inspection sticker.
