Sounds good.! Could I compare motorcycle mileage to car mileage...? Same lifespan (parts/service etc...).....?

Expect to do far more maintenance on you bike than acar.
When was the last time you changedthe transmission fluidin your car? The '02 service manual for your bike will probably recommend changing transmission fluid every 5K miles (HDrevised their recommendedchange intervals to 20K in about '05- but most riders I know still change the transmission fluid every 5k or so).
If your car needed new rear tires every 10K miles, you would be pi$$ed! Expect to replace the rear tire on your bike every 10 to 12K miles.
As far as, "How long will my bike last?" -- the answer is, "How long will you want to invest the maintenance money required to keep it running."
Bikes are toys to many folks - and many folkswant the newest toys. They sell their bikes because they want to try another model - or when a newer engine comes out.
It ain't like they "wore out" their old bike, they just want a different one.
What you just bought, you could ride for the rest of your life - if you wanted to........
The real questions are, "How long will you want to ride your '02?" "How many miles are you going to put on it." If the answers are "the rest of my life and 20K miles a year," then expect to put some money into engine rebuilds, etc. Also, if you go this way, 50 years from now, you will have to get used to all those folks trying to buy your "Classic."

There will be plenty of time to ride when the kids are grown and on their own.
