"1%ers - Generally, members of outlaw motorcycle clubs. Derived from a statement by the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) that 99% of motorcyclists are law-abiding and the remaining 1% cause most of the problems. The statement seems to have first appeared shortly after the so-called Hollister riot in 1947. The 1% symbol, is usually seen on a rhombus (diamond-shaped) patch, and worn on the cutoff or colors."

Here's a famous photo taken at the 1947 Hollister Rally in Hollister, CA that represents the 1% trouble makers.

Here's a quote that I like. [sm=smiley20.gif]
The "golden rule" of conduct:
"If you give respect, you will get respect. If you act like an a--hole, you will be treated like an a--hole!"

RE: just curious
Many people have different definitions of this term and stories about its origination. The bottom line for me is...If you see someone wearing this patch, treat them like anybody else and you will be okay. If they act totally like a jackass and you suspect they may not be a true 1%er, don't call them on it. Let the other 1%ers handle those types. (and they will)
