Last time I did the Long Slide was in 1982 in Scotland on the way to Loch Lomond. My passenger counterleaned on a curve at 50 mph. I held onto the bars for a hundred feetsliding down the road before I lost it. Totalled the bike.

Had a dumbass turn left in front of my bridgestone 175, when I was 15,(1971) totaled bike and put me in bed for a week, helmet saved my life that day. Fell over at a stop sign on my 93 classic(1994) when I put only my left foot down and my 12 year old son did a wiggle waggle, busted end off front brake lever. Other than that and a few with dirt bikes, been real lucky in the 43 years I been riding 2 wheelers.

Hmm, I had an accident back in '89 and another in '99. Sounds worse now that I write it out like that, 1 wreck every 10 years, but considering the miles I've put on my bikes, not too shabby in my opinion.
Only the '99 one was serious enough to do hospital time.

Last August, came around a corner and a pick up was in my lane. Laid it down doing about 35. Broke 2 ribs and messed up my shoulder. Thank god it wasn't in the right side of my bike and that I was wearing leather.

My one and only crash, which was my fault, was about 15 years ago. I had a Yamaha Venture Royal. On the way to work on a 4 lane hwy., I was stopped at a light, with a semi and a few cars in front of me, in my lane and a pickup pulling a horse trailer with some vehicles behind it, in the lane to my right.
Not having much patience, as I watched the light ahead turn green, I jumped over 2 lanes to the right turn only lane. I knew it would be easy to get past the traffic that was blocking me before they got into the intersection and then I would get back into the proper lane and have clear sailing ahead. I was just coming to the front of the lead vehicle when a car pulled right across my path and I t-boned it. This car had come from the opposite direction and wasjust completing a legal left turn. The large vehicles in front of me, while I was waiting for the light, had blocked my view of the car turning.
I came out pretty good just some torn clothes and a gouged up full face helmet and $4,500 damage to the bike. After the collision, I took the impact of the fall with my right knee and elbow. They were both sore for awhile but no lasting damage.
I think one crash where you don't get hurt is probably a good lesson. I think twice before I do something stupid now.
