Default Need Help Pumping up Power

OK HD community,

I need some guidance on increasing the internal power of my 1979 XLCH.

I am looking for useable/street-able/reliable power - not trying to build a full race bike, but, do want to have enough power to punch a 2-3 bike length between me and say a dyna...

Any/All help will be much appreciated

I know I need cams, pistons, and stronger internals, but I don't know which brand to get and the best place to locate all the items as a package, if available that way at all.

Anyone?

I would just ride it and enjoy it. Its not going to be fast no matter what you do to it. Harely's are cruisers not race bikes.

Put an 80'' shovel head top end on it.

Default Back in the day,,,,,

I had a 77 XLCR & a 79 XLS that ran pretty strong,,,

Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons, Andrews R5 cams, Manley valves and springs and a modified Kehin carb coupled with Barnett Racing clutches, Tamer, and modified shifting quadrants that shifted 1 up and 3 down,,,,,,, almost impossable to miss a shift!

Back then,,,,,, a stock 80" Shovel didn't stand a chance and I could give a 88" Stroker a run for their money!

I just re-read through the receipts that came with my bike showed that Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons, Andrews cams, Manley valves and springs and larger exhaust valves were added too.

This is addition to the S&S carb and drag pipes that are on the bike.

Going to take it out for another run today.... just to knock the webs off

A good tune-up and carb cleaning may help too.

Considering how desirable the XLCH is to collectors - are you sure you want to futz with it at all?
