There's a few guys here on the forum that have modified their Dyna Switchbacks to look like old FL's. I think that would sell great, seems like a lot of dudes are looking for a stripped down Road King. Harley already builds it...almost.
This is a forum members bike...forgot his name.
There's one in this thread that took the Duo Glide look even furthur.

Bring back the tsport, i would buy one in flat black right away. Cut down on the miles i put on the roadglide and it would be better for my short rides and splitting all the traffic in the bay area
I agree on a Adventure touring bike, or sport touring bike, the vrod motor was the smoothest bike i have ever ridden, but it was not very comfortable and did not handle well. That motor in a good clearance bike, that can lean, good seat, fairing etc, to give a sport touring bike to those of us that don't want to ride a jap bike.

What I am getting at at what went wrong with the Softail Deluxe CVO is the the Softail Deluxe is supposed to be a nostalgia bike, so I think they should have taken the nostalgia aspect to the extreme instead of painting it up as bright and goofy as possible and bolting on elements that are the opposite of nostalgic.

They should. Even though that was from the 90's, I think the so called Dork Custom line could take a cue from it.
Again, the 90's had some really great bikes with thoughtful design elements that both looked and worked right.
