Default Will EPA kill Harley-Davidson?

There has been more fuzz about this subject on this board before.

Beyond any doubt the good old air-cooled v-twin will disappear under pressure of environmental protection measures.
The feature which makes a Harley Davidson a Harley Davidson will be banned as a polluter in the near future. Very disappointing for a relatively small goup of motorcyclists in a time when you see the displacement, weight and power of cars growing and growing.

The worse has even yet to come.

Now the idiots of the Euopean Committee have released a new report.
‘Reduction of Energy Use in Transport'

For motorcycles they advice:

- Only one cylinder
- A maximum displacement of 650 cc, that is 40 cubic inches
(yes, you've read it well: FOURTY cubic inches)
- Automatic transmission (bbbwwwwaaaahh!!??)

I think we all will become extinct soon.
You'd better be fastand buy a big twin before it's too late!

No, it won't. They have saying this stuff for decades. Harley will continue to make air cooled EPA compliant engines.

They'll kill Harley and everything else. As soon as they are done getting those terrible, deadlylawnmower mufflers under controlthey'll focus on the other 100's of areas they've already started messing with.

Shoot, it wouldn't just be Harley, it would be Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Aprilla, BMW (I think BMW has one model that's a single lunger 650cc)...the list goes on.

Screw them, i'm not worried about it, won't live long enough to see that day anyways. By then we'll be living in a Global Tyranny so complete and comprehensive that your m/c will be the least of your concerns.

Read "1984"...

2nd Amendment baby...

If the Japanese cruiser influx of the 70's and 80's couldn't kill off Harley, I doubt the EPA will either. There is a lot of talk and recommendations about everything these days and now that Algore got his Oscar, it's likely to pick up some speed temporarily. The fact is that there is as much "science" on both sides of the Global Warming debate, regardless of which side you come down on. My scientist can beat up your scientist so of thing, a grown up version of a pizzing match.

Hell I've even heard that cow farts are the source of more methane than anything else, who knows? I'm no scientist, but if they can't tell you what the weather is going to be next week with any certainty, how ever do they expect to be able to tell you what it's going to be in 20 years?
