RE: Will EPA kill Harley-Davidson?
Hopefully one day some of these A-HOLE tree hugger envirementalists ,will discover there are other things much more polluting than our Harley's. I think a good place to start would be some of these mexican or jap companies that have no one watching what they dump and pump into the air.

RE: Will EPA kill Harley-Davidson?
depends on what you consider "harley davidson".
if "HD" means to you a good looking bike, that is loud and rumbly, etc, that has been around forever - then yes
if "HD" means to you a good looking bike, that is quieter than ever before, possibly water cooled (maybe not), etc - than no, HD will be around for a while.
things change. the MOCO will adapt or dissappear. Riders will adapt, or dissappear. its pretty much that simple.
HD folks have been pissing and moaning about this chit for years now. its getting old.

The starter of this thread is from The Netherlandsso his worries are probably well founded. Quite a bit different in America...we'll be riding air-cooled v-twinsfor a long time.

The worse has even yet to come.
Now the idiots of the Euopean Committee have released a new report.
‘Reduction of Energy Use in Transport'
For motorcycles they advice:
- Only one cylinder
- A maximum displacement of 650 cc, that is 40 cubic inches
(yes, you've read it well: FOURTY cubic inches)
- Automatic transmission (bbbwwwwaaaahh!!??)
I think we all will become extinct soon.
You'd better be fastand buy a big twin before it's too late!

I'll let you know how the forum I'm attending with lot's of the environmental organizations goes. If you think motorcycle emissions aren't a major priority of the EPA and environmental groups, you've got another thing coming. This is a big deal.
See, these folks view motorcycles not as tools of transportation, but instead as vehicles of recreation. In other words, you don't use a motorcycle to get anywhere, you use it to have fun. And your fun is destroying the environment. That's what really honks them off about motorcycles. To these organizations there is no excuse for utilizing an internal combustion engine for entertainment purposes.
Will Harley be destroyed by EPA standards? Likely not. Harley will adapt, and hopefully, so will Harley riders. Harley will die out when motorcycling as a whole dies out. I would tell you that motorcycling as we know it will die out in the next couple of generations. You can count on it.
I guess on the plus side, all the wannabe outlaws may become real outlaws soon enough.
