Water cooled limited ultra?

I don't have an opinion on the subject one way or another, but agree...that thread has 20000+ views and 570+ posts. Doesn't make sense people can't figure out where to put their gas cap on their own.

My thoughts in the mechanics talking code is this. The liquid cooled heads is just a temporary fix for the excessive heat that is being generated by the lean conditions being mandated by EPA. I think the MOCO is just doing heads for now and will engineer something for the cylinders without loosing the V-Twin image Harley's known for.

how does it actually work? i have seen the mythical patent blue prints that have floated around for the last few years, but how did they do it?
from the patent blue prints it does kind of look like a trial system that can easily be bolted on or removed from an already aircooled engine. and going on harleys history of a new engine every 14 or so years, they are due for a brand new engine.. i guess we will see in the next year or two.

I agree that it's a "temp fix". Or maybe more accurately described as an interim solution. They start with a water cooled head to get the customers used to dealing with rads and coolant, but not changing to look of the engine too drastically. Next will be water cooled cylinders, they'll keep some stubby fins on there for aesthetics only but won't be functional.
I'd say we'll see water cooled engines in 5 years or so. After all the models have water cooled heads.

They are due for a new engine as Jimmy says.
