Howdy from Raleigh. Never been, but heard a lot about Maggie Valley. How long a ride from our area?
I'm not one to hit the roads on holiday weekends, but considering a ride before too late into fall. Is it the kind of thing that can be done on spur of the moment, find a decent place to stay upon arrival, or always need reservations?

The wife and I spent last week in Maggie as always a Great time..We rode over to Asheville and found a art district that she enjoyed..But always a blast I recommend the mexican place next to the fairgrounds for something a little different than smoked pork or ribs....

Hey neighbor. For being a holiday weekend, the Dragon will be the only road that will be to crowded, but the crowds don't bother us. There is so much riding places up there. Maggie Valley is about 4.5 hours away. The Dragon..about 5.5. Normally, you don't need a reservation...but it's best. Plus there are so many places of different variety to stay pending on your taste. As far as I can tell...weather looks good. Always bring rain gear though. It gets a little chilly at nigh & early morning too. Area is very motorcycle friendly. Check these other places out too.

I just don't like being on the road for holiday weekends, bike or cage. Burned out on that kind of traffic long ago.
