I just recieved my first Harley last thursday. Its a 1998 Fatboy, and I love it! Rides great! The only problem I have is that I dont see a Fuel Gauge on it. I noticed other bikes have theirs on the leftside of the tank, I have a cap there but it doesnt come off. Is there a kit I can buy to add a fuel gauge? I know I can use the Trip, but Id really like to add a fuel gauge. Thanks alot!

I know what you mean. None of my bikes have ever had fuel gauges and I learned the hard way on my first two bikes how to keep an eye on my mileage. (if pushing a bike a mile or two on the freeway a couple times doesn't teach me, I don't know what will) I just make sure to fill 'er up before I reach 180 miles which is about the time I need to use the reserve ![Frown](https://www.hdforums.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I'm watching this thread though because it would be nice to have something, somewhat inconspicuous though.![Smile](https://www.hdforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

HD added the fuel gauge to the Softail line in 2000. Your cheapest best bet is to use the trip odometer as suggested above, you can pride yourself on the "old-school" solution.

My 2006 RKClassic has a fuel gauge. It is about as accurate as Al Gore on Global Warming. You are far better off with the odometer, or even taking a peek at the worst.

1998 Fatboy, Unless your tanks have been changedboth gas caps should come off.Yourgas caps turn in opposite directions. There is a small balance tube that connects the 2 tanks, but use both caps.
