No Fuel Gauge??

RE: No Fuel Gauge??
You could always install a version of the old Piper Cub fuel gauge. A section of clear fuel resistant plastic line. When you see bubbles, you are just about to run out.

RE: No Fuel Gauge??
No fuel gauge here on my Sportster.I only have a speedometer. No trip meter either. It just shows my total mileage.Lets just say that I now know when to fill it up.How many miles were on my bike at the last fill up? And jeez, that petcock lever is hard to get to while doing 65mph with full finger gloves on!Had to pull in the clutch and pull over, flip the lever, fire it back up and get gas ASAP!Thank god I was already in the right lane when she started to sputter. No more close calls.I fill up every 100 miles nowbecause it's easier to add to my total mileage!

I had a stock needle gage on my 01 DWG it was difficult to read I would have to lean forward take my eyes off the road to see it. I changed it out with one of these pup's

I also got the matching flush mount gas cap. They look really cool the gage is bright in the daylight and dims at night and I just take a glance at it and can get a reading. it also has a battery gage on it. I love it. So far it appears to be accurate if you stop and let the gas settle for a moment. [sm=biker2.gif]
I paid the price shown at the stealer then I saw it on discountcycleparts.com for $90.00 [sm=headbang.gif]

RE: No Fuel Gauge??
i'm putting my sportster 1200XLC in for its 5000 mile service tonight. and have been pretty good with mileage, i suppose. 41 ~ 47 seems about the range i am in. i have never been able to add any more than 3.3 gallons though. i think i had about 140 miles on the trip odometer that time. the specs tell me i have 4.5 gallons, but the light generally comes on around 125 or 130 miles. i see people here mentioning squeezing close to 200 miles out of a tank. is that little light just an overly aggressive alarm then and i really have another 40 or 50 miles before i am pushing?
summer is coming and i need to learn more before heading for the 105th...

My 2006 RKClassic has a fuel gauge. It is about as accurate as Al Gore on Global Warming. You are far better off with the odometer, or even taking a peek at the worst.

RE: No Fuel Gauge??
My Fuel Gauge also works on my '06 RKbut I also rely on my trip odometer reading just to make sure. When my gas light comes on I usually have a little under 3/4of agallon left.

Hmmm. Electronic fuel gauge not very accurate. How many of you have taken the time to make sure your electronic speedometer/odometer is accurate? If I can't trust one, I would be leery about trusting another. I am assuming that your speedo is electronic like on the 2008s. Maybe it's not.

mine must be a quarter tank off... stays on full till I get about 50 miles on the tank, then drops like a rock, when the gauges fuel light comes on, ... you better be pullin into a station (c:
