Mid Grade Gasoline
Does anyone use midgrade gas in their bike? If so,how does it run? Pinging? Loss of Power?

Damn, all the guy was soing was asking a question. I'm sure he's not worried about saving a few bucks, just what happens if you arein a place wherepremium grades are not available.I guess that's why I'll probably stay at the lowest level on this forum as I would rather not have my a$$ handed to me if I ask a question or make a statement.

I haven't had to use any mid-grade yet but, you never know when you find yourself in a bind and have to put some in due to lack of premium grade. If anyone has had any experience with this I, also, would like to hear it.

Octane levels have to do with rate of burn..etc
HD recomends Highest pump octane.
to get you home,a weekend,,, mid, even low level gas would be quite alright...
go back to what the Manufacturer recomends,, alls good!

Yep; I would say do what you have to do to get by but do not use it in stead of 91 octane. I do believe the 883 can use lower grades of gas.

I've used a couple of tankfuls of midgrade 89 octane and couldn't tell any difference. No pinging. But Idon't make a practice of it. At 10 cents a gallon difference, a three gallon fill up costs 30 cents more with 91 octane premium. My peace of mind is worth that.

The octane will react different in different bikes, tuning and ignition do matter. Best run your bike low and put one gallon of regular in it drive around town and put the engine under moderate load, increasing the load each time, if you hear pinging go to the midgrade level and try the same, if you still hear pinging you need to run Super on a regular basis. Midgarde or regular will do in a pinch just dont go recing and get the super of midgrade when you have an opportunity. My RKC likes super but is also okay with midgrade, unlead causes pinging. Best to buy major brands alos they have good QA/QC.

Been there Done that.. I had to put 88 octane in my bike once and thats all it took. After 2 spark plugs and 2 gallons of 101 octane, I was able to get her running right. After talking to several mechanics and the dealer, they say don't ever put octane boost in a harley. Don't know why, but there suggestion was to mix the highest octane and change the plugs. I had to filler up in a place that was all they had, but next time and better fuel managment I would rather try to find a station that had the good stuff.
