Also, after work, once I refilled my tank, I went on a 50 mile ride and had no problems at all.

I will have to say my HD flush mount gauge is fairly accurate. There are 6 LED's & at my typical 42 MPG one LED will go out for approx. one gallon used until it gets to the last one & I have about 1.2 gallons left. I still use my odometer as my main indicator.

What about the Range function on the dash? Does anyone use this?

The "float" part of the gas gauge seems to be a weak point in Harley design -- I've had them go bad on me on two different bikes over the years (twice once on the same bike).

They used to be easy to change before the fuel injection days. Not sure how involved the process is now with the fuel pump in there...

My 05' has a working analog gauge and a reserve (good for about 16 miles). When did they stop putting a reserve in there? Not everyone watches the gauges or mileage; you only have to need it once...

The reserve petcock went the way of the Dodo with fuel injection.

You do get a nice low fuel light when you have about a gallon left - if it is accurate.

I've always gone by the trip odometer to determine when I need fuel, even on carbed bikes.

For whatever reason my bike no matter how full I get it never reads full about 7/8 at best. But even when it reads dead empty I have at least 1 gallon left. For me that is OK, it is on the safe side, I should never run out, if I go by it.

i've never had an issue with the gauge on my 07 wide glide but i've used the trip b on the odo every time i fill up. i try to fill up every 100-120 miles when just cruising around and 175 when im on the highway with a destination in mind

i actually really like the trip a/trip b function. i use A to keep track of miles since oil change and B to keep track of mpg.

I always use the trip counter and when I'm riding around town, I just top off the tank every 100 miles or so.
