Son Joined The Army
19 years old and my Son decided to join the U.S. Army. He's been going through his decision making process for a while and finally turned the key yesterday. I went down to MEPS with him while he contracted and then I re-affirmed my oath at the same time while he took his initial oath ... just the two of us in the ceremony room. I never dreamed how difficult it could be ... proud and scared all at the same time. I know exactly what he committed himself to and tried extremely hard to ensure he fully understood his decision.
He ships for basic training on 15 Mar to Fort Benning and then on to Fort Sill OK.
One proud father here!! [sm=americanasmiley.gif]

March 31st, I will be at back home at Ft. Benning. Keep me posted if you come up for his graduation. There are some things up there that you need to see if you can take the time. Tell him thanks for us all.

Congrats from another Lake County native.
My son, too, wants to join the service.. He wants to "Fly Navy!" like his old man, so I fully understand your Pride and Fear.

Congrats!! It is definitely an exciting time. Tell your son we are very proud of him. My son spent 6 years at Ft. Benning and enjoyed all of them before he moved on to Bragg this year.
