You should be a very Proud Father Ben. Tell your son Thank You.

My daughter shocked me several years ago after her first year of college. She called me and said Dad I'm going in the Army. I supported her decision. The poor thing couldn't even do one push up and had six weeks to get ready before going to Basic training. I admired her determination as she put her jogging shoes on and tried to prepare each day. The proudest day of my life was when her company chose her to lead them out onto the parade field on Graduation. My little girl grew up.

 

I'm with ya. My wife's little sister went into the Marines right after Christmas (literally, like December 26th). She's been training at Parris Island and has been kickin' butt. She was designated as a squad leader soon after getting there. My wife's been really freaked out by it all, but at the same time we're really proud of her. Kudos to your boy! God bless the USA!

I'm a retired UASF E-8 and I too know the sacrifices ahead of him.I have been in harms way a time or two and I'm still here kickin'. God has a plan for each of us and I pray for your son's safety and success.
I'm a PGR Rider and I pray every day for the safety of all of our troops.
My thoughts and prayers are with ya'll.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, wishes for encouragment and prayers. It's kind of ironic because he'll be going through advanced training at Fort Sill, that's where he was born while I was on my first duty station!! I was actually thinking of retiring soon but now that he's joined the ranks, I'll think I'll hang around a while longer.

dgator66 ... I'll shoot you a message before he graduates BCT at Ft Benning. I've been there a couple of times but only TDY. I'm hoping to get time away so I can ride up there, usually stay at Pine Mountain.

Congrats! This must be a difficult time for both of ya....and I'm sure he'll do just great. Like most of us Vets on here, it changes your life and gives you experiences only we can fully understand. I wish him well and keep us posted as it brings back memories we all appreciate. It's hard to tell stories of boot camp without laughing....just ain't too funny when your going through it!

Before you know it, he'll be graduating and you'll be balling...LOL The way it should be!!

Dittos to all the above! My sons are only going on 11 and 12, but they both have expressed thoughts about maybe wanting to join the military when they are older. Who knows. Nothing would make me prouder. And worried at the same time!

 

Ft Sill Hope he is going to be a 13F, we are getting kinda short on people. Congrats to you and your son and good luck to him in his military time!
