Trading drag bars in for more comfort. Any sugestions?
All right, here's the deal, I have an '86 FXSTC. I love this bike and have no desire to trade it for a touring. That being said, I also live for long rides 200+ miles in a day, I'm always looking for whats around the next bend!
The problem; over the past few years my body has become less forgiving. They tell me I'm getting old...
Anyway, I currently have drag bars, 10" rise w/7-1/2" of pull back. I'm 5'-10" with average length arms and larger than average chest/shoulders, that pinch of the circulation to my hands from time to time. I need to find a much more ergonomic set of bars. Ones that will give a more natural arm position and more relaxed wrist angle. I'm thinking buckhorns but would like some suggestions from other riders about what has and hasn't worked for you!
So, yell out guys, how can I make that old steed more comfortable?

First off drag bars suck! So I gave the mini 11inch apes a try and wow best bar ever 200 mile day no issues... I would do mini apes 10 inches or if there to hight try a stock set of Fxst bars from a older Fxst like a 2000-2005

I'd agree with Magnum I went from drag bars on my Nightrain to Harleys mini chubby apes and find them more comfortable, although if your into lane splitting they're not so good as they're a good bit wider.

Yeah, I had considered mini apes also. But I thought the pull back of buckhorns and different wrist angle would be more comfortable than having to reach up/out to the apes and turning my wrist horizontal (MOL).

All of the Softail Standards and Customs came out with Buckhorns up through 99. I am 72 years old with back problems and I can ride well over 200 miles with them no problem. If adjusted right, when you put you hands out with your eyes shut they will grab the bars naturally and your wrists will not be at an angle. To me they are the most comfortable at least on our bikes. They also had 4-1/2" pull back risers stock.

Here is a picture of an 87 Standard with buckhorns. I like the looks of them too. I have the stock pillow look seat also that came on the Customs which is a great seat. It will take out the bumps that the suspension doesn't.
