I found the culprit to the leakage.... It was coming from my generator.

With the generator tightened up, the engine was just about dry.

 

So did you replace the gasket or just tighten up the screws? The gasket is cheap. At the end of the riding season replace it with a new one. Permatex grey added to the gasket is overkill but double insurance against seepage and links.

Use James outer primary gasket as well as James for your chain inspection cover; it is money well spent. The only other area to watch on genny shovels is the tranny main seal.

Keep in mind...until 1965 HD operated on a constant loss system on the primary/rear chain side (hell my 49 doesn't even have a rear chain oiler; has to be done manually). When the 65 models came out with the aluminum inner/e-start it was functional but really not a "true seal", which is why a lot of shovel riders isolate the primary in order to reduce/eliminate the half-dollar spot (I know my engine oiling system is working) on the ground.

 

on my 51and 68 that's how I know they got oil in them but my 04 doesn't leak at all
