on the way home the other day, doing about 55 on a 2 lane, I hit a bird with my face! Caught me right between the eyes! Learned something, birds will leave a mark ( and a feather or two)!

Once I got hit in the throat by a bird (I guess it was a swallow, ha-ha), was wearing a helmet with a face shield. It was a little hard to breath for what was probably a few seconds, but seemed like forever. I don't think any kind of a helmet would have helped.
