Chaps are useless in the rain IMO.

Aerostitch Darien pants. Buy once cry once. Mine are about 20 years old and still good as new. Mat not look like new, but they have thousands of miles on 'em and will likely outlast my riding days. They stay rolled up in the saddlebag.

Gators. Plain and simple. In most rain, I found that my shins get the wettest. Gators are inexpensive and pack very easily.

Now if going on a long road trip, a full rain suit might be a better option, but for shorter trips and so forth, gators work just fine.

I recently rode through 3 days of rain and was wearing my road toggs (frog toggs) they did well, but you still get some wet areas around you neck. I just can't seem to find waterproof gloves that don't make my hands sweat like crazy.
Chaps for waterproof??? if you like swamp butt, since your underwear will be soaked.

Good grade of Frogg Toggs not the waly mart grade. I got some from Cabellas for example pay about 75-80 bucks for the whole rain suit. Fwtw they will fit over chaps even though I dont wear them.

I also use soft lowers in the cold weather and when I expect rain they work great keeping water off your lower parts.

I'll probably go with some rain pants since they can be picked up so cheaply and take up less space than a set of chaps in the saddlebag. Dry Bones and Frog Toggs both seem like pretty good buys.

I bought some HD rain bootys and they come up half way on my shins and plus cover my feet and I like that. I hate wet feet yuck food for thought since you are still shopping.

Find a Army surplus store that buys used gear. You can find gortex pants and jackets for pretty cheap.
