Default Reason 1047 why to wear your helmet...

My OL and I went on a ride over the alpine loop of American fork canyon (a must do if you're ever in northern Utah). A lot of areas that are surrounded by rocky cliff bands. We're cruising through and I hear a real loud CRACK! I look in my rear view thinking maybe I ran over something and it hit the bike. I don't see anything in the road. By the sound it was obvious that whatever was hit was plastic. Bike's running fine so we continue on the ride. Beautiful day, great ride.

We stop for lunch. While we're eating I ask Nicole if she knew what the loud bang was. She said, "I was hit in the head with a rock." "No ****!" She shows me her helmet and there was a nice ding in it where the rock hit. She barely even felt it.

During the ride we saw a lot of folks with just bare skulls. If that rock hit them it could have knocked them out!

It makes you wonder the "what if" situations.

Exclamation Flying rocks?

Around here that would been some crazy ******* throwing rocks off of an overpass!
How do think the rock came to hit her in the head?
Crazy stuff!

Or worse, damn good thing she was wearing it, that's their purpose, to protect you noggin! You just never know..

Glad your lady is ok. However, whenever I ride in Utah it is the perfect time to shed the helmet, since it's mandatory in CA.
