Motorcycle Safety/Risk Comparison...
Attached is a fairly unbiased/statistically defendable and balanced comparison of motorcycle safety/risk comparison...
To gain a useful/intelligent perspective, it is valuable and prudent to know your risks/factors AND to know how those risks/factors compare with other dangerous avocations...

It would be interesting to see the numbers broken down by injury. The stats provided are really just an approximation of how likely you are to die engaging in an activity.
I do a lot of skiing and deaths are pretty rare. But joint or bone injuries are another thing entirely. I have had a torn ACL, torn MCL, broken thumb and a tib/fib fracture spread out over about 15 seasons of skiing and recreational racing in clubs.
I suspect the relative injury rate for motorcycle riding is going to be at or near the top of the list of the activities compiled when accidents and mishaps that don't result in death are factored in.

This. Knowing what my odds are is not going to change my riding habits or even deter me from getting on the bike.

Data in isolation like this can show anything the data producer wants to show.
This data does not disaggregate the motorcycle deaths to show whether these were single vehicle crashes, multi-vehicle, reckless riding, responsible riding etc.
For example, a responsible rider, wearing safety gear, and applying defensive riding strategies is far less likely to die in a crash than this data shows.
So my interpretation is that reckless lunkheads make riding seem far more dangerous than it is using this generalized data.
