Are you better buying a 96 or 103? Or even bigger?

There are some 98" kits out there. HarleyCharley said 97". They are marketed as 98" but actually not quite there, 97 and change.
Stroke the motor to 4.375 inches (96C.I. crank) and you can go to 107" approximately.
If you are stroking it you can also bore the case halves for larger cylinders and go to 124".
There is always the, off the shelf, 120R engine option or any number of other aftermarket engines.
All it takes is cash!!!!

I stroked my shovel to 108"
You can do anything you want within reason depending on your cash flow

Most builders will tell you that a hot 95" will do damn near anything and smoke a stock 96" or 103". There is no replacement for displacement and all that. Anything you can do to a 95" you can do to a larger motor, but $ for $ a solid 95" with some head work, cams and a tune will keep you smiling from what I've seen.

I know a guy that is building a NASTY 95" motor right now, he is a tech at a dealer, I can't wait to see how it does on the dyno. He had 108hp, and 117tq with 211cams , and stock heads.

the 95 will do everything you need, and more, unless you're looking to build a drag racer. However, for those who "enough is never enough" you can build a 107 with the factory 4" stroke. A 4.125x4.00 makes 107. I know I'm gonna do it one day... never seen an oversquare Harley... wanna see how it works. I was raised on 60s hotrods where big bore and short stroke were the hot ticket.
