Default Any good tricks for draining oil?

The drain plug for my tank is half way in on my 83 FXRT. I cut some plastic siding to kinda slide under to redirect the oil to the pan but it still spills on the starter and engine, hard to wipe off. I'm considering making a plug with a valve and hose but that could be bad if it accidently turned on. I can't be the only one that's run into this, but I could be the one to stupid to think of whatever simple fix yall have for it

Put the drain pan on the floor...

Then hold your bike upside down with the filler tube over the pan. No chance oil will get on the starter then...

Do it when it's cold. It burns when it's hot.

OP, take a 1 liter soda bottle and cut it to make your funnel.

There is a specialty drain funnel made for twin cams. Works okay but a coke bottle cut right works just as well.

Yep. I missed it. Long week---not enough sleep. Sitting here trying to unwind. There is a remote hose with a plug in the end made for those hard to reach drain plugs. I don't remember where it is sold. Internet search ?

The FXR is the worst bike to change the oil on. Who the hell dreamed THAT up?
