Must be your dealer's internal policy. My dealer in texas sure would sell one after factory w expires. Assumming the bike has less then 75,000 miles.

 

Well I found out today that you have 90 days or 2000 miles whichever comes first to buy the extended warranty without any additional surcharge, about $200 to $300 additional.
After 90 days or 2000 miles then there is a addition surcharge to buy the extended warranty $200 to $300.
Now if your bike's original 2 year factory warranty is expired it will cost you even more to buy the extended warranty.

So it seem that you will get the best pricing if you buy the extended warranty with in the 90 day 2000 miles window when buying a new bike.
