Aren't some pipes just loud with crappy performance?
As long as we're getting into the whole loud pipes controversy..
Isn't it a fact that some pipes are just loud and suck at actually making your bike run better, actually making it run worse?
What is the point? Just to fart along and go slow?
To each their own. I like my pipes kinda loud. But I don't get loud and slow, homies.
Especially if you get the Stage 15, with a hyper tuner, or whatever, and then put bad performing pipes on.

Have you opened a JP cycles catolog? I bet most of those short wavy pipes suck as far as performance and prolly loud as hell. I personaly gave up sound and looks for performance.

My big shots pipes were not bad now after my cam wow did they get loud... my brother in laws 96 inch dyna with big radius pipes I can't even here run near mine

It's all about priorities, everyone's different. There's a lot of guys out there that go for looks and sound over performance. I personally figure if I put money in my ride I want it to increase the function but to each there own. Most harley owners don't actually ride their damn bikes farther than the bar or Starbucks anyways.

I ran some rush slip ons without baffles for a few thousand miles.
Everyone told me it would kill performance / make bike run bad etc.
Truth of what happend i probably lost just a little performance or people had me so convinced that it was i just thought it did.
It certainly didn't make this major change everyone said it would and the bike ran fine. I put the lolipop inserts in after a few k and was "convinced" i got the performance back.
Call me obnoxious and stupid i thought it was funny setting off car alarms 30 feet away at idle.
I'm sure you loose more with shorter pipes but enough to really matter i'm not convinced. Not like these are sport bikes to start with.
With the big radius and tuner the bike does run better but it's a far cry from loud imo.

That's "generally" true for your low and mid range riding, but they work real well at WOT, which, for some is where they want their performance. To get some of the low and mid range back, you can use the old bolt or "lollypop" trick, or slip in KW baffles. Or course, what exhaust works for best performance depends on "your" engine.
One thing's for sure, if you're runnin' stock exhaust, you are NOT getting optimum performance.

Yes, 'typically' insanely loud exhaust does nothing to improve torque, and can actually lower torque numbers. 'Typically' horsepower numbers will increase. Torque gets the bike moving, horsepower keeps it moving. I love the loud pipes, but with a 800+ lb bagger, I need the torque. I actually ride my bike, so the insanely loud pipes aren't practical for me. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that....
