This , hit the grating loosen up your grip a bit and let the bike find it's path . Yes it will make you wide eyed for the first 30 seconds but you'll catch on fast . Do the death grip and it'll beat the **** outa you and the bike will feel like it's all over the road .

Crossed it riding two up a few times, never had a problem. Biggest issue can be the wind.

Ran over a rabbit in a grated bridge. Rabbit bits squeezed out through the bottom. Instant fish bait.

Riding on metal grates usually sucks big time. It leaves you feeling that the front end has loosened up and without precise directional control - but - my 09 Road King WITH THE LARGER TIRES doesn't seem to have this problem! One of the pleasant surprises of my bike!

Was in another discussion forum where I saw a rider who wiped out due to a cattle grid in the roadway. Pretty sure he was on a sportbike, maybe. I don't have the details, don't know how the wreck came about, he did say the cattle grid caused the wreck. No other vehicles were involved, and it appeared as if alcohol and drugs were not involved in the wreck.

Yeah, if you're riding out west and see a sign that says "Free Range", it means there will be grids here and there, and maybe a cow in the road.

Those grid bars are spaced farther apart, and they suck at 70. Don't matter what kinda bike.

Pull a wheelie and you will only have to worry about the slick surface on one tire (vs. both), so it will be twice as safe

The Mackinac Bridge is a piece of cake. You want to really freak out, try the grated bridge over the Teslin River in BC. Now that's freaky, The surface is raised and causes noticeable wobble and wandering. The Mac is like training wheels.

Like everyone else said, it gets a bit squirrel, but relax and pretend you are riding on loose gravel. Keep a constant speed, don't fight the bars. Be cool and it will be all A-OK.
BTW, DO look down. It is an awesome treat!! The Big Mak is an awesome bridge. My son and I rode it when we were on our way back home from HD's 100th.....at night....and as we reached the top a brilliant meteor approached from our 7 o'clock, streaked overhead to our 1 o'clock, curved upwards and exploded in a huge shower of fragments over the lake. The whole countryside lit up like day for about 4-5 seconds. The attendant at the Toll booth asked us what the heck it was. I think my son almost ran into the curb on the bridge....as did I. It was one of those "I wish I had a camera implanted in my eye" moments.
Oh yah. The Teslin Bridge is not only grated, if you get the right speed it feels like you are in a small boat going through big waves....up...down....up....down. I've probably been over that bridge a hundred times or more.
