Default Got Caught In The Rain

Yesterday I was on my way home from the VA hospital. As I left, I noticed that pop-up thunderstorms were almost on top of the city. I decided to take surface streets home instead of the interstate so that I wouldn't have to ride at high speed in the rain.

About 10 minutes later, while still downtown, the rain let loose! I was mentally prepared but had no rain gear. All I had was my helmet and sunglasses. The rain got so heavy that I could not safely navigate the road or traffic but there was nowhere to pull off or get out of the rain so I made my way home slowly. Water was pooling all over the road and the bike was sputtering due to the Stage 1 open-air breather.

I am writing to see what others do when caught in the rain with nowhere to go? What would you have done in my situation?

I've ridden in almost every type of rain I can think of, including the heaviest most powerful drops. I do just what you did and take it slow. It's definitely okay for your bike to get rained on.

Now, I do like a shiny bike, so if I have time, I usually wipe it all down when I get back to my garage. But, if it rains it rains.

It happens a lot to me , here in Florida. I just ride it out.
I never carry rain gear, so if I get caught in the rain, I tie a bandana around my face, up to my goggles and ride on.

It takes about 3 days to dry out the leather jacket though.

Rain? What is this "rain" you speak of???

I never have had any form of rain gear. Just a helmet with a face shield. When I've got caught in it, I just keep on going. And I'd rather be on a highway, than city streets...to many turns on slick streets.

As for your AC, how about investing in a rain proof sock? I know the SE Heavy Breather has one. There has to be others.

Just keep riding. As mentioned above, I'd rather be on the interstate than surface streets in the rain too. Traffic all flowing in one direction, curves as opposed to turns, just take it slow and stay out of the oil. Have fun, ride safe.

hey, couple of weeks ago i was headed out of denver on I-70 west. got rained on, sleeted on, snowed on, hailed on, and a little later some more sleet. slowed down and kept riding--before long i saw a rainbow and enjoyed a nice afternoon of riding.
