Tank Badge Problem. Help!!!!!!!
Just had fresh paint done and had 61-62 badges installed. Used the adhesive backing and noticed the other day the front of the badge was coming off the tank. I unscrewed the badge so it wouldn't fall off going down the road. Any ideas how to get the backing plate to stick again. I didn't really want to remove it due to the fresh paint.

My vote - I think you will have to remove badge...use a heat gun and fishing line.
Remove the old double stick tape on both surfaces and prep the paint and badge w/ alcohol.
Reapply new 3M double tape to the badge and reapply to the tank.
The failure could have been due to gases still exiting the fresh paint and trapped by the badge, or wax polish residue on the paint under the badge, or applied during to cold weather. So rule those out this second time.
Good luck.

Yeah, I would let the paint cure up for a little bit and then use some really good alcohol to re-prep both areas again. I'd recommend the 3M automotive double-side foam tape.
However, this is another reason why I don't like badges. It'll be much easier to wax that new shiny paint if there is nothing on the tank, you know.

Yep Yep they are correct, it is better to allow the paint to cure for a week before adding that Tag, then before installing clean area with alcohol (99%) let dry then install.

Thank you for the help. I would think that the alcohol would damage the clear. This is what I was worried about. Ill wait another couple days to be positive everything is set up and fix her up.

Another option for attaching the emblems is 3M Emblem and Trim Adhesive. Many factories use this for new vehicles. It has worked well for me in several situations. It can be removed without damaging most paints but you should test it on a hidden area of the paint first. Get it at any auto parts place for $6 or so.

just to clear up any confusion, you are to apply the alcohol to the tank surface, not drink it!!!
