ABS brakes saved my ass last night...
#71
Police bikes had a system beginning in '04 (I think it was). Civilian touring bikes began it in '08, along with the upgrade to the Brembo brakes. It's since become available on other models as well.
The early system (police only) was good enough, but had a large control module, that sat on the high-side frame, and resulted in a loss of about a third of that saddlebag. And it was overlaying the older brakes, which weren't near as strong as the Brembos. The new system is very integrated. No obtrusive parts, and not even a tone ring. With the Brembo brakes you can get stopped in a hurry, and if you overdo it, you've got ABS to correct your error.
