A good sign.

A good sign.
They are starting to do some major road repair in my town. This is the first time that I have seen this type of sign. It says Motorcycles Use Extreme Caution. I had my wife take a cell phone pick of the sign and then used extreme caution by turning around. A friend of mine said that the road was so torn up that they bottomed out thier SUV on the road. I have been through all sorts of road construction, but never seen a sign like that.

Just started seeing those signs in Jersey this past year when entering road paving areas. Also motorcycles stay in lane. I know over here its due to an increase in wrecks. CYA for the road work companies

That would make sense. If the road was so chopped up that a Ford Explorer was scraping my Softail would not stand a chance. Still it is nice that they think about bikes, because I would have just stayed in line and found myself possibly in a world of hurt without the sign.

Signs like that are pretty common here in New England, I see them mostly on highways whenever they use machines that recycle the top layer of asphalt and leave them like that until they have a chance to lay down the new hot top.
It's not that big a deal to ride on scarified roads but the machines leave a grinding pattern that makes smaller tires want to follow the grooves making some riders uneasy. And boy would I hate to go down hard on that stuff, it would probably erase you by the time you were done sliding on it.

They just milled a three lane highway by me about a month ago. They did one lane at a time for about five miles every night. In other words, they would mill the lane, and then come back the next night and top it. I was riding in one of the milled, but not topped lanes and the lanes to either side were both topped.
There was about a 2" vertical lip on the side of each lane. I quickly realized there was no way in hell I was jumping lanes either way so I just rode it out in the lane I was stuck in until it evened out and could move over.
It was not navigable on my bike as far as I was concerned and was dangerous as hell.

I've never seen one of those signs here in NJ, but I've run into roads that were under construction, or had been milled or oiled, WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER and avoided them, in at least one case going a few miles backtracking to get where I needed to go. It's nice to see that they're at least paying "lip service" to motorcyclists, although I'm sure not out of any concern other than to Cover their A$$eZ...
