Never did this. But thanks for posting the thread, seriously. I'll be more mindful for it.

I have always warned my riding buddies to NEVER shut their bike off with the kill switch. One of them wondered why until he pulled up to me the very next time he saw me & went to hit the kill switch, but hit the starter instead. he did not like the noise that followed. My EX also did the exact same thing to my Fatboy. I too, didn't like the noise.

Sometimes my right hand will go numb if I've been running down the slab for hours. I have to look at where my thumb is pushing to make sure I don't do just that.

I wish that I had cruise control, rather than that goofy little star wheel that you can't feel with gloves on.

I'll join the ranks of the mystified at this whole scenario. Yes - I make mistakes and once I hit the kill switch instead of the horn (wrong side-Duh!). The motor turned off, and I just turned it back on and sped along on my way - maybe half a second of brain fart.

If you rode it all the way out to the emergency lane and came to a stop I am sincerely, and genuinely, in fear for your safety. You need to get to know your machine better. Sorry if this comes off as harsh, but really?? Just turn it back on!!

Fwiw - this is exactly what I would say to a friend. I would have a serious "wtf" look on my face.

additionally - there is something wrong if your hands go numb after 2 hours of riding. I would get a physical.

IMO a kill switch on a street bike is a outmoded device that should be discontinued. what emergencey is it that requires a kill switch. think before answering. first responder? what the bike has been running for the 15 min. for the first responders to get there? most motorcycles have a tipover switch anyway. throttle sticks. pull clutch rev limiter will protect the engine. i seriously can not think of one good reason for a kill switch.

I have never used the kill switch and also wish it wasn't there. My wife was taught to always shut down with the kill switch and leave it in gear. That bugs the hell out of me. If I hit it I would just turn it back on. As far as hitting the starter button, I've done that when wanting to hit the horn. I can never find that horn button when I need it.

Good subject.
Never happened to me.
Just so I am clear.
1) If this happens I simple turn the kill switch on and that's all?
2) when I finish riding I just turn off the key switch and leave the kill switch always on?
