Default Transporting Bike

Has anyone used a transport company? if so who did you use? where you happy with them? Needing to transport bike from Chicago to Phoenix. I have considered riding because I am leaving bike there but I have been told by the time I add up gas, food, lodging, maintenance on bike, I should just have it hauled.

Opinions?

Thanks

I would no look at this from a straight economical decision. Yes maybe you can ship it for the same as riding it including gas, food and lodging, but you've also bought a nice ride down route 66 and your bike winds up where you want it. If you ship it, all you have to show for it, is your bike in Phoenix. Now there maybe other good reasons not to ride, but price of shipping vs riding shouldn't be deciding factor. I had moving companies move my bike twice on military moves with no problems.
